Winter Olympics 2010
Who would have thought it??
About 4 months ago, I received what I thought was a hoax email, from the Australian Olympic committee, enquiring about La Bassine.
I actually "trashed it" ( wouldn't you??) but later on that day I had another look at it. After chatting with my old mate Google, I realised that it was infact a genuine Email.
The Australian Olympic Team were actually wanting to purchase 2 of the pools to take to Canada. Not knowing much about any sport, I asked my husband what sport could possibly be played out in a birthing pool. ( I was picturing all sort of bizarre antics) His "oh so witty" retort was actually not far from the truth. He said it was probably to keep the Champers on ice for all the gold medals that we would win.Feeling pretty stupid, I had a large glass of wine and made the phone call. I spoke to a great bloke from the committee who told me that the Athletes were going to use them as ice baths, to limit muscle and tissue damage after competing.
To be honest, the mere thought of Canada alone sends me into hypothermic shivers, but the thought of scrabbling about in the ice and snow, representing your country, only to be rewarded with a massive bath of freezing cold ice blocks has put me off competing in the Olympics for ever.
I would have thought a bottle or two of Dom Pérignon and a deep muscle massage would be much more appropriate!
So, now you know, we at Simply Birth supported the 2010 Australian Olympic Team, by providing them with birthing pools. Great isn't it!!
